The Hands Off Love Affair originally came together as a kind of therapy. Matt Sherren, Ross Charpetier, and Dave Cantelli were coping with the breakup of their local Boston bands In Vision and Flip 22, while Tony Choelo sought to fill the void of his own former band, Throe. More importantly, the four founding members used their music to grieve for the loss of Danielle, Dave’s sister.
A soundtrack was created, dedicated to emotions ranging from anger, confusion, grief, and sadness. The vocalist, Kels Ferguson, didn’t come until almost a year later, searching to fill her own musical void and upon arrival, completing the complex musical puzzle. Now, The Hands Off love Affair is a staple in Boston’s local music scene, working their way to what the band affectionately calls “The Big Show.”
