About The Good Friend
"I have always loved music," says Christian Rodriguez. A Miami-native born to Cuban-American immigrants, Christian spent the early years of his life moving around for his parents' residencies and medical internships. He draws inspiration from his life experiences and intense passion for life. Christian comes from a family of artists - his grandmother is a classical/opera singer, his father is an acoustic guitarist and singer, and mother a singer and pianist... just to name a few. From a young age, Christian's parents have introduced him to a variety of music, "When we got in the car they always played the Beatles, Beach Boys, Indigo Girls, America, Earth, Wind & Fire... and harmonized to it. It's because of those moments in the car that I learned the structure of melodies and harmonies. They used to make me sing and practice harmonies with them. When it came time to go somewhere, I was always excited for the car trip."
As he got older, his passion for music grew. When he was 13, his father bought him his first guitar knowing Christian had wanted lessons. After 6 months of lessons, Christian gave up on classes and continued teaching himself. Later, he picked up the bass and piano by ear. He started writing songs when he was 17, and in college, took some music theory and voice performance classes. Still, he found that DIY was more his style. The result is a unique style of music which also echoes the influences of the artists he listens to. As for the songwriting process, he has this to say, "Songwriting is a very personal endeavor and it's hard to put yourself out there, but I like to think that I have something worthwhile to share."
