About Tami Hansbury
A Philly native, I grew up with jazz and R&B in my house.
From a little girl listening to records from artists such as King Pleasure, the Delphonics, Aretha Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. In my teen years to every 45 record I could get my hands on: Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder and in my early adulthood to Pat Methany, Noel Pointer, Ella Fitzgerald, Stanley Clarke, and the Yellow Jackets. I was reintroduced to straight ahead jazz and then I learned about Antonio Carlos Jobim and fell in love with his songs and it made me want to write more.
I began by tinkering on the piano at four, then obtaining my own keyboard much later, making up songs with my friends playing music as a hobby, it turned out to be what I loved to do! Practicing day in and day out to find that perfect melody to make a heart sing.
I love classical music, classical jazz, straight ahead jazz, smooth jazz, contemporary jazz, vocal jazz, jazz fusion, R&B, world music, reggae, and rock.
Some of my favorite musicians include Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sergio Mendez, Christian McBride, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Marvin Gaye, The Intruders, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Elton John, Sade, Les McCann, Michael Jackson, Noel Pointer, Pat Methany and the Yellow Jackets.
I love going to live music shows!
