Sonny Fairley has a contemporary and standard jazz sound with danceable to chilling grooves intertwined with melodius winds blowing from his saxophone and flute. He is a multi-genre and versatile artist with passion, style and professionalism. Sonny has performed on local stages, jazz festivals to international venues.
Sonny has opened for many A-list artists and headlining acts such as the late, legendary Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, and Lou Rawls. Also, Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band, Lenny Williams, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Con Funk Shun, Earth, Wind and Fire just to name a few.
Sonny's artisty transcends from the recording studio to performing on stage into teaching music to children, youth and adults. Over twenty-five years, Sonny has been a member of the Oakland Unified School Art Education Task Force. He started a mentorship program, "Keeping Music Alive" for the Oakland Unified School District. Sonny has also been instrumental in starting music programs for several churches around the Bay Area including KQED Educational TV sponsored Prominence Project for Youth in the community.
Currently, Sonny is an instrumentalist for several faith based organizations in the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area. Sonny has won the Budweiser Bay Area Top Star Award for best Jazz Instrumentalist for two consecutive years.
