About Ratfish Bone

Seattle, WA

Mississippi tossed us a “Black Cat Bone”. Seattle has coughed up Ratfish bone, an energetic group of characters that wring passion and raw emotion from their unique arrangements of traditional blues.

The band’s origin belies the blues experience, playing together during the last year after its two guitar players “The Professor”, and his brother “Fishfry”, were reunited following their misfortunate separation during the course of early childhood. The Professor traveled from Seattle to Chicago in hopes of landing a job in a real blues band. He approached Fishfry one Friday night between sets at a Fishfry Blues Band show. This thing led to that and the brothers realized their good luck; they was re-united. When the boys were boys they had lived together in West Virginia coal mining country until their parents parted ways. Fishfry ended up in Chicago learning the blues hanging out on Maxwell Street and in front of blues clubs drinking Old Style. The Professor had invested his formative years in the desert outside Tucson sampling peyote and picking guitar. The brothers had long walked different roads.

Barely able to make rent in the incestuous Chicago blues scene, Fishfry and The Professor hitch hiked to Seattle to form Ratfish bone.

With “Stickman” Mo on bass and cello, and “2 Dolla’ Bill” behind the skins, the brothers feel they have found the sound to which they had independently aspired.
