LATKA BIO: Latka is a 5 piece Alternative POP band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They have been together for 6 years and went through 3 band names before settling on Latka. In early 2003 Milos Mitrovic, Andrew Clark and Aaron Szabo decided to start a three piece alternative band after being influenced by bands such as The Black Keys, White Stripes, Nirvana and Joy Division. The three piece started playing shows late that same year under the name Menopause. After only two shows the band decided to recruit Kellen Ketchen as a bassist for the band. This new addition created a full sound the band desperately needed. In 2005 the band added another guitarist, Cole Vincent, to the fold which completed the bands line up forever. The band played many shows in 2006 including popular venues such as the Label Art Gallery, Red Road Lodge, Ellice Café Theatre and The West End Cultural Centre. Menopause was even featured on Power 97s River City Rawks Show before appropriately changing their name to Brooklyn Zoo. In 2007, Brooklyn Zoo had the opportunity to open for famous bands such as Ill Scarlett, Supersuckers and Gob. The five piece has also played with memorable acts such as Pimpbot, Angel Lust, The Exception, The King Sofas, Jaw, Psychotic Gardening, BladeLazer, Damascus, Hi-Fi Hand grenades and many more. In early 2008 the 5 piece went in the studio with Mad House Laboratories to record a 6 song EP entitled Ghetto Playground. The EP sold considerably and was played on the River City Rawks Show on Power 97 as well as on CKUW 95.9 FM. More importantly the EP scored the band a spot on the Kevin Says Stage at the Vans Warped Tour in the summer of that year. Playing with bands like Katy Perry, From First To last, Cobra Starship, Gym Class Heroes and more. Upon returning from the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, Brooklyn Zoo played one last show at the Garrick Centre with BladeLazer and Damascus before taking a 5 month break. In January 2009 Brooklyn Zoo ended their break and began writing a whole new list of Pop influenced songs much different from their old style. Because the band decided to take a better, more structured direction in their music they decided to change their name one final time to Latka.
