About Kurt Norm

Charlotte, NC

Born in a small town, in northeastern NC, to a phenomenal woman who had previously lost 2 infant sons, Curtis Norman aka “Kurt Norm” became his mother’s 3rd; however, only child. The determination needed to push forward in a world where he felt like the puzzle piece you try to fit, knowing it didn’t belong, was derived from her and his Grandfather. As a boy with a silent nature, and minimum expression, he came alive when communicated to through the medium of song. These two individuals were and still are an instrumental part of the Village that helped transform a boy into the man and artist he is today.

His voice is the force he uses to spread his word. With it, he has the power to communicate a full range of emotions, allowing the most beautiful dream or living hell to be distinctively visualized through his lyrics. When he started out, he was silent and even now his demeanor is quiet. When he vocalizes his internalized thoughts through lyrical content, he is bold as a Lion’s Roar; however, his spirit remains humble as a panther lounging in the grass.

Music has always been a huge part of his life. Due to growing up in the church, Gospel is the root of his being, as he would sing on the choir, or just lead songs in general. In High School, he was a member of the Community Choir. As a member of Winston-Salem State’s University Choir, he was introduced to other genres of music (i.e. Classical, Jazz, and African); however, has always been in love with R&B and Neo-soul.

It is when he sings and writes, that he feels most at ease with his inner self, no longer fighting the war of restraining a portion of who he is. In the majority’s reality, he is the outcast; however, is a normal being in the abstract world of other artists alike. He has sung at weddings, in classrooms, on his jobs, on stage with the Community Theatre, and even participated in Talent contests here and there. He loves how it makes him feel. Furthermore, he loves the feeling he is able to give to others through the combination of melodic notes filtered through words of substance.
