Jamal Skye possesses lyrical and musical talents that have been harvested through several years of experience and education. Born and raised between Atlanta, GA and Northern Virginia, Garrett Jamal grew up in a single parent home by his mother who also had the responsibility of raising four other boys of which Garrett Jamal was the youngest. Garrett coined the name Jamal Skye or “J-Skye” after graduating high school and relocating to Atlanta. “Jamal”, which is derived from his given middle name and “Skye”, signifying no limits or boundaries to his musical talents. Receiving the name from a friend and hit producer Cedric Moore (EvaTrill, Usher Raymond, 112), Singer/Songwriter/Producer Jamal Skye understood what his purpose in life was…..TO CREATE LEGENDARY MUSIC!
A master of his craft, J-Skye started singing at the age of five in the grassroots of Baptist churches like most legendary singers before his time, at the age of twelve however, Jamal could not ignore the creative genius in him for REAL R&B music. While at the beginning stages of recording, Jamal studied under the supervision of many talented producers and vocal arrangers such as EMI recording artist Canton Jones as well as the aforementioned platinum-producer Cedric Moore. Jamal exemplifies soulfulness and character which speaks for itself through his recordings With songs like “Getaway”, which is a street-certified mid-tempo hit produced by Cedric Moore, and self produced and written track “Top Of Da World” , J Skye delivers powerful harmonies, slick verses and impeccable timing which will surely keep the listeners in awe! Citing Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Donny Hathaway among the many legends that have influenced his talent, there is no question as to where his maturity comes from.
