About Broken Scar
Broken Scar is a 3-piece independent rock band from Melbourne, Australia that has been winning audiences with their infectious melodies through energy fueled rock shows as well as intimate acoustic shows.
Originally from Malaysia Kevin Teh, the charismatic singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band, has made head turning music and delivered memorable performances pumped with high energy from the very first show as a solo act. Ask anyone in the Malaysian music scene and they will tell you that Kevin is like a kid bouncing off the walls.
With the release of the band’s debut album Midnight In St. Kilda in 2006, there was no turning back. The first two singles from the album, Scratch and Down hit the number one spot on the Xfresh FM Independent Charts in Malaysia. Venus In September was also featured in a number of compilation albums as well as the popular Malaysian teen television series, Kami.
Over the years, Broken Scar has gone through various incarnations from performing solo and eventually to a full blown band featuring amazing musicians. Kevin played shows relentlessly and toured nationwide to reach his audiences armed with a set list of high octane anthems to laidback heart-melting ballads. The shows varied from intimate spaces to stadium sized concerts when Kevin and the band performed at Rock The World 7, Malaysia’s largest annual music festival.
Subsequently, The Shooting Star, Broken Scar’s online EP was released in 2008. Following this release, the lead single, Shooting Star went to number one on FLY FM’s Campur Chart and stayed there for 8 weeks in a row. The band has also been nominated in the Anugerah ERA (Best English Language Act Category) and Voize (Best Vocalist Category) awards in Malaysia.
In search for the big dream, Kevin packed his bags and moved to Melbourne, Australia. The band now features Danny Brickwell on bass and backup vocals, Yun Tjin Kee on drums and Kevin still at the helm. The band is currently busy writing and recording new material for their next release, to be announced in 2011. Exciting times ahead, so watch this space for updates!
