Dallas, Texas - Brian Powers met J. Catalyst at a local Dallas Open Mic Night. Brian noticed the ease and comfort that J. Catalyst had as he grabbed a chair and whisked it onto the stage. J. Catalyst performance had captured everyone’s attention in that room. These two gentlemen met officially at a local studio. From the initial meet, there was chemistry. Brian wanted to assist J. Catalyst with his project and in return, he would write a verse for Brian’s project. Brian Powers had been creating beats and has been playing the piano and guitar for over 14 years. J. Catalyst has been writing for 7 years in both the spoken word and in hip-hop world in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It was intended to be a simple collaboration, but instead became the birth of Broken Hourglass. With the injection of a third member, Tiffany Belle, who has been singing since childhood, the trio was now set.
Their first single, “I Am Forever” is off of their debut CD, “Shadow of Death, Journey of Life”. “If music could speak to us in its own voice, these are the words it would say to the world. We hope it will be considered music’s ultimate tribute to music.” This single, as does the entire CD, represents Broken Hourglass’s vision of real world issues of today. Whether it is a dark or bright, Broken Hourglass has the ability to bring their voice to the forefront. “I Am Forever” has a hard feel to it, with sustained background vocals that have a powerful effect on those who listen to it. Along with main vocals and the beat which creates that suspense, the story is told clearly and is understood by fans all over. It’s that constant tapping sound that to me signifies a heart beat, beating out of control. It allows you to reach your deepest depths and emerge enlightened.
