PlayEverybody Knows ( John Legend )

by Anj

I was so moved by John's lyrics that I decided to basically re-create his song. I kept the words/chords, but changed the melody/tempo to express the underlying bittersweet sentiment of the song.
I know this isn't your standard approach to a "cover". But I think the beautiful thing about covering another artist's song, is that the end result is a blend of two artists ideas, talents, and souls. The coming together creates something brand new, and in this way, the music lives on.

i have been looking at these category, and the talent that did not make it into the quarters and semi's,and it's hard for me to believe that this is what the people really want to here. Not bad,but the more talented songs seem to be left behind. I don't know why, but i can't help but feel people are cheating in some sort of way.

I really like this rendition. I hope you win Anj. I sense you are a beautiful spirit. I feel it in you genuineness and originality. I love the piano and your voice is beautiful too. I like it when people play and sing in organic ways like you do. Your piano & voice only rendition is wonderfully exposed and real and separates the musical "men from the boys", because there is no band to support you. it's real and intimate and courageous with nothing to hide behind. You are my vote. Good luck! Cathy

It's my opinion. U shouldn't have to defend anything, G. Matthew. If you truly felt like these lyrics have both hope and loss, then you would understand the dynamic range that songs need in order to portray that. Stepping aside from just a listener's perspective, there is much to be heard other than piano and vocals. Thanks.

I love the piano in this song, and I love the voice. And contrary to PottyMan's comment, I think you sang the song exactly as it needed to be presented. This song has bittersweet lyrics, and a deeply emotional message behind it. One of both hope but also loss. You can feel all of that brought to the surface in this dramatic representation. Beautiful. And clearly, the best.

I like the piano in this song. the voice I do not feel. it drags out too slow and depressing because it's a song of hope. I just feel the down. Wish it was a little more uplifting. Nice style though.
