Absolutely beautiful song.. and I'm a sucker for strings! And your voice is intoxicating. Thanks for creating such wonderful music. I hope we see you at Lilith!
Talented and intelligent. The music drives with the organic sounds of the strings. I love the melody, very uplifting. Truly a song I can listen more than 200 hundred times. Not saying this cause I know her personally...truly mean it!!! GO KATY!
I've seen Katy live and her voice can do ANYTHING. This song is strong as are the vocals but she also has happy fun songs, love songs, and heartbreakingly beautiful songs. If she doesn't get into Lilith Fair it will be a big loss to the audience.
Everyone has their own opinion.. if you check out Mighty Kate's music (in addition to this song) you'll find that her voice is really quite strong and versatile. She's just singing hard in this song on purpose to get the point of the song across. But yes, this is mostly a popularity contest sadly. I assure you however, unlike some of the other girls in this competition, Mighty Kate is incredible live. If she does win this contest, she will definitely be a worthy performer at Lilith Fair.
everyone likes the lyrics and i agree the lyrics are great but what about her vocals? They are mediocre at best. Other females in this competition have stronger vocals. But i guess this isn't a vocal competition, it's just a popularity competition, either song wise or person wise.
I agree, Krista. It's there in the description, "A woman's plea to be heard in the name of love and honor". It's an emotional ride from the very first notes, unsettled and agitated, like something waiting to be cut loose from its chains, so the vocals feel appropriate to the content
I admire your thoughtful and articulate responses to this and other songs, Maddy.
Well the song is about a couple fighting, so I appreciate that her voice reflects the intensity of what she's so eloquently describing. I think it is a brilliant combination of pitch-perfect vocals and "shouting." This song is one that I can completely relate to and sing along with.
I see lots of really positive comments on this song overall, and so I'll put in my 2 cents. I think the instrumentation and arrangement is really cool, although it feels a little predictable at the end. Very interesting to see a singer/violinist! I'm not too crazy about the voice (it seems to be forced and gets a bit "shouty" at times), but the melody in the chorus is catchy. The lyrics are just okay; not really the strongest element. Mighty Kate seems to be more of an instrumentalist than a lyricist. Overall, I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.
