Rumba came to Cuba from Africa via slave ships, and Spanish mariners brought it back to Spain, where it became part of flamenco. It's syncopated beat can be counted 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2, with the accents on the beat of 1.
This recording was made on October 24th, 2002 at Cornell University. This piece is a selection from the album Ethnology of the Heart, which is available directly from me, or from CD Baby, iTunes, and other download services.
