Lansdowne had the great opportunity to meet iRobot CEO Colin Angle through a mutual friend. Their robots overseas aid and assist soldiers in disarming bombs/mines/etc. After hearing the stories from soldiers that truly believe that they are alive today because of these robots, Lansdowne wrote the song "By Your Side" about knowing that there's a friend who always has your back, just like these robots are always close to our soldiers in battle.
