Shawn Summers was born June 27, 1986 in Mount Holly, New Jersey. He is the middle child of three boys, in a single parent household. In an effort to compete for attention Shawn being a natural entertainer, learned at a very young age how to use his musical talents to stand out by performing for his family, and friends every chance he got.
As a kid, his family was constantly moving around forcing him to often have to adapt to new enviroment, and to make new friends along the way. From New Jersey's fast pace, to the rough streets of Philly, Cleveland flats, the grittiness of Harlem, to Albany's white collar neighboroods, to quiet Akron, Ohio, to sunny Florida, and finally settling in one of Pittsburgh's toughest ghetto's, the Hill District.
Like most troubled teens growing up in the inner city, Shawn had a difficult time finding his way. All to commonly, he got caught up with the wrong crowds that resorted in bad choices, and landed him behind bars several times. As an outlet, Shawn began writing. Taking his very diversed background, and articulating his experiences into witty rhymes, and
followed by his fluid flow.
Out of many struggles, Shawn matured, as did his talent. Thus, "Jung Phil" was born. A transformation of the "Pretty boy" meets "Cutting Edge", Seductive, "Urban Rockstar" with, a coastal swag. He has always been on-point, a real "Go getter" who is always about his business. As that being said, Jung Phil is what you call, "The Total Package".
Shawn has spent the past ten years focusing on growing, and building his brand. His hardwork, and dedication is aimed toward raising himself to a higher standard of Artistry.
It has been a long road for Shawn Summers, but the process has been an essential part in the creation of the artist, whose ultimate goal is to reach out to a diverse market of followers all around the world through newly popular music movement known as, "Urban Pop".
To his credit, Jung Phil has performed at various venues nationwide, including Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Charity event hosted on NBC television network. He received the Los Angeles "Artist of the Week" award, 5 top ten awards, and 12 top forty awards on Ourstage for his singles released in 2013 and 2014.
January 5, 2014, Jung Phil was named an official "MTV Music Artist".
Most recently in October 2014, Jung Phil's video to his hit single, "United", a tribute to "Trayvon Martin" was selected to air on DirecTV's New Music Channel (NMC), and is currently being featured in heavy rotation.
In addition, Jung Phil has digitally released 3 mixed tapes, 4 singles, and 2 albums worldwide on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Plus to name a few. Thus, gaining Jung Phil the attention of Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B fans alike. Jung Phil has created a diverse fan base with his lyrical, and vocal ability, his distinct image, and his urban pop style.
