PaperPaulk born Devin Lee Paulk June 3rd 1989, the third of four children born to a strong willed woman named Schavonne Rice. She raised her four children all by herself while working 2 jobs to provide for them in the poor streets of Cleveland, Ohio. Living without a father left Paulk very hurt and confused and this is a driving force behind many of his lyrics. His father had a drug addiction which caused his family to be a broken and it caused many of his problems in school. He misbehaved to the point of being sent away to a detention home at the age of thirteen. As a teenager he was a very skilled athlete but he was distracted by the streets. He gambled, sold drugs and stole to get what he wanted and needed. He attended Warrensville Heights High School for three years but the constant distractions prevented him from graduating from there. He later enrolled at Cleveland Job Corps and received his diploma from there. This was the point in Paulk’s life where he was beginning to change and straighten up. He received his diploma in 2008 and got a job at a factory, not the most glamorous of jobs but it was a job. He worked at that factory until he decided to enroll himself at the University of Toledo. He worked to provide for himself and went to school; he more recently realized that he wanted to take his music seriously and he worked hard to pursue this. Music was and still is his passion and he would record and write while in school until he decided to fully pursue music so he quit school, not because he is a quitter but a dreamer. He knew that his musical dreams would come true so he pursued that instead. His music is his motivation and has pushed him to where he is now and it will continue to motivate him. His music alone is a motivational speech for everyone. He wants kids all over the world to know that they can pursue whatever they want in life as long as they work hard and have faith in God. It is faith and hard work that has given Paulk the opportunities that his has now. He has never let anything hold him back, whether his teachers had no faith in him or he had no father; it has yet to deter him from his dreams. His motto is Street Dreaming, you may have given nothing in life but your dreams and if you work hard enough and have faith your dreams will become reality.
