About MIke Goelz
My big brother use to play me to sleep with James Taylor and Jimmy Croce tunes when I was a kid in Cadillac Michigan. I fell in love with folk music. From their I listened to old tunes from other artist such as Jerry Reed, Ray Charles, Glen Campbell and Three Dog Night.
I officially learned to play guitar and sing in church when I was 15 years old and performed across the country in 1985 & 1987 on the world renown "Faith and Prayer Tour" going from church to church in a old beat up yellow van pulling a shabby cheese ball pop up camper trailer. Amazingly I somehow lived through it. I've played on and off until I lost a few of my marbles sometime around 1994. I then decided to live off student loans and have fun as a cheerleader and mascot for Arizona State University. Around 1999 the University pushed me into declaring a degree and I pretended to be mature for a few years and taught school. Epic Fail! After those events I sold everything I owned, bought a guitar backpack and lived off the grid for 10 years. That's when original music came into my life. Funny how total freedom from material distraction can spawn creative energy.
In 2003, after writing a slew of original music, I got back on stage. I played open mics, gigs and parties every week till 2013. Somewhere along the twists and turns of this treck, I found my voice.
The crazy roller coaster ride somehow led me into Gardner Coles recording studio - a multi-platinum award winning artist in Phoenix AZ. He's my biggest name drop I have, so I figured I better throw it out there.
I will be coming out with my first full album by this next spring (or maybe the next one after that) and I decided to get back on the stage to begin promoting my music. I'm sure there are hundreds of huge artists that would want me to write for them but I feel it's better to stay humble and poor. My biggest music accomplishment to date is playing for GIGI's Playhouse for the Down Syndrome kids. It's without a doubt the most extraordinary audience I've played for.
From 2013 to 2016 I drove a semi truck and utilized this time for fine tuning my songs and unraveling more creative threads. My Dad died during this time and I changed my life to move in with my Mom and help her in her senior years. I worked behind a computer for the last three years till my head began to spin and now hope to get back into a big rig some day soon.
I asked my family and friends to write 3 words that describe me and here is the mostly unedited lot of it: Joyful, greatful, insightful, full of it, compassionate, spiritual, creative, talented, witty, charming, loyal, reliable, consideriate, compassionate, determined, Content, Oh wait.… Unbelievable Loving Friend. NO wait.....Smile, Giving, Gentle, Hold on..... Beautiful, Kind, Gift, Kind Considerate, Fun, easy going, Social, Loving, Kind, Friend, Outgoing, adventures, fun creative, talented & caring, Fun, Love, Music. If anything, this exercise was very good on my self esteem and I recommend it highly!
Personal Goals – I can’t think of any that have come to pass but I’m still trying.
Regrets? Gobs of them. No need to stress you out too.
Hopes? I try hard to avoid them at all cost.
