Friday, June 12, 2009 Rising star Mackenzie Morgan to shine tonight at Riverbend-Chattanooga Times Free Press article Category: Music Rising star Mackenzie Morgan to shine tonight at Riverbend Included in this article Audio Mackenzie Morgan is just 12 but has already sung on stages in Branson, Mo., Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and at the White House. If you haven’t caught this rising star during a performance of “Choo Choo Cha Boogie,” or didn’t hear her soar through the national anthem at last December’s NCAA Football Championship Subdivision final in Finley Stadium, you might want to catch her act today at 5 p.m. on the Bud Light Stage at Riverbend. Parents: Tracy and David Stambaugh. Hometown: Corbin, Ky. moved to Chattanooga in March 2008. Started singing: At age 5. “I sang at church and for funerals,” Mackenzie said. First vocal competition: “I entered the World Chicken Festival in Kentucky at age 7 and won” (over all youth and adult competitors). Awards: She has won eight international awards and 10 regional and state awards for Entertainer, Vocalist or Young Performer of the Year in gospel music from the North American Country Music Association, International Country Music Association and Tennessee Country Music Association. For the last three years, 2006-2008, she has won the Tennessee Country Music Association’s New Gospel Female Entertainer and Vocalist of the Year. With 10 million albums sold, nine of them gold or platinum, this artist reflects the Riverbend philosophy in bringing top-name, relevant artists to Chattanooga. The owner of five Grammy awards, Chapman has won more Artist-Of-The-Year “Dove” Awards than anyone in history, including a new one for 2009. Chapman takes the Coke stage at 9:30 p.m. On the Bud Light Stage, Mackenzie Morgan performs at 5:00 p.m. The 12 year-old star of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Jukebox Junction show electrified the audience as one of the cast members on the Unum Stage Saturday Night. Tonight she gets her own billing, accompanied by the very talented band from the Jukebox Junction. Put this down in the “don’t-miss” column! Mackenzie's Riverbend Revue - Chattanooga Times Free Press Tuesday, June 9, 2009 , 10:18 p.m. Chattanooga: Riverbend's Faith, Family Night promotes clean fun By: Jacqueline Koch (Contact) While the musical acts change every year for Faith and Family Night, people say the reasons they attend do not. “There’s no drinking, and it’s clean, family fun,” said Brittany Cook, who added that she attends Riverbend only on the Tuesday night set aside specifically for families. The Ringgold, Ga., woman, who brought her 2-year-old son, Dylan, said she was excited to see headlining Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman, but was more thrilled about 12-year-old Mackenzie Morgan, the youngest member of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo Jukebox Junction Family Theater. “She’s only (12) years old, and she’s awesome,” Ms. Cook said. Fans enjoyed Mr. Chapman, who opened with “Blessed Be Your Name,” followed by “All Things New” and “Everything is Yours,” after which he told the crowd he added a verse to that song following the death of his daughter in May 2008.
