Garshar (Songbird)

My original name is Garshar aka Songbird, and I'm an artist and singer/songwriter of so many genres of music. I was born and raised up in D-Town (Dallas, TX.), and began singing in church at the age of 3 with my mother and siblings, so I've been a singer since I can remember. I've always had a love for all kinds of music, and in my household I grew up on a variety of gospel, pop, R&B, and soul music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. I never really began to come into who I was and wanted to be as an artist, until I was about 15, when I started writing and singing my own style of songs. I have written over 200 songs and counting; hoping to someday write for other artists. I have major love for real original and unique music that touches people and that tells a story. Artists who have inspired and inspire me today are: God (the most creative artist ever), Dinah Washington, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Brandy, Erykah Badu, India.Arie, Emily King, Mariah Carey, Dwele, MC Lyte, Fugees, D'Angelo, Ledisi, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Paramore, Pink, The Roots, Bob Marley, BoyslikeGirls, Creed, Robin Thicke, Minnie Riperton, Flyleaf, Marie' Digby, Adele, Michelle Williams, Kirk Franklin, Fergie, Chrisette Michele, Musiq that Soulchild, and local artists out of D-town, Sammy aka Hampton and Deon Harris (from our duet Satisfaction). The list goes on and on... My resume includes opening up for, singing for, and with artist such as: Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, The Disciples of Creation, Josh Harrel (gospel singer), and( new upcoming artists) Sammy aka Hampton, and Deon. I am also no stranger to acting, as well as writing plays. I have been apart of a few plays by local playwriters and hope to someday take it all the way to doing broadway musicals and becoming an actress on the big screen. I pray to someday produce great music for artists and own my own record company to give other struggling artists, like me, a chance to pursue and live their creativity.
