Portrait of Gene Payne

My name is Gene Payne, born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I've been singing and playing the guitar and other instruments since I was about seven years old. My dad was a musician that was involved with most of the best known local talent in the area. He recorded some of them playing live most of the time. He got me started at an early age. I play acoustic guitar, lead guitar, steel guitar, keyboards, mandolin, dobro, etc. Over the years I played with a lot of musicians in and around town. From the 1950's to 1995 the "Country Boy Eddie Show" aired on a local television station here in Birmingham where Tammy Wynette got her start. Also Sam Frazier was on that show. He has an Ourstage site. I appeared on that show for many years. I recently was in 3 bands at the same time. One band was called the "Law And Disorder Band". Another band is "The Lone Wolf Band". My current band is called "The Backroads Band". We play country and southern rock mostly. One of our drummers, Tim Hood, has a sight on Ourstage, check it out. John Kelley is also a drummer that has played with us a lot. He has a sight as, John Kelley Rocks, check him out too. When you check out John Kelley's sight, some of the songs you hear were done in my recording studio. We even re-recorded Tim Hood's songs in my studio, the "TenTimes Recording Studio". I enjoy writing songs either alone or with my friends. They have some great ideas. I hope you enjoy our music, there will be more to come real soon. If you would like to get a CD of these songs, e-mail me at Logunsrun5@aol.com Visit my site on Facebook.

Recently I've been playing at the National Underground in Nashville and various shows around the Nashville area and Lebanon Tennessee.
