MIX is a musical combination of many styles, sounds and musicians organized and orchestrated by Ryan Smith. Basically, it is all about getting creative and trying new things that may or may not fit a particular style. We all like variety as well as something familiar we can relate to, and this music will demonstrate both.
About Ryan: Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan moved to Houston, Texas then Parker, Colorado where he currently resides. A part of a very close family, Ryan was inclined to learn and love music due to his dad's interest in guitar and his mom's active singing. He first started music in the 5th grade where he received his first concert snare drum. He studied snare drum, bass drum, xylophone, timpani, drum set and various other percussion instruments during his time in elementary and middle school. In high school, Ryan joined the Chaparral High School Marching Wolverines. He was excited to make the snare drum line in the battery section of the band but soon learned of the hard work and dedication it would take to be in such a position. Through high school, Ryan played snare for the marching band all four years making battery section leader the last two years as well as participating in the symphonic band and wind ensemble all four years as well. He learned many of the basic skills for not only percussion but music as a whole throughout his years in high school. After high school, Ryan took a year off to discover what he would like to go to college for soon discovering that Music Education would be a perfect fit. He enrolled in the Metropolitan State College of Denver and is currently in the process of gaining his degree. Ryan also plays for his local church praise band in which he has been playing for since the start if high school teaching him many different aspects of playing in a small band setting. He has just recently taught for a new high school's marching band, Legend High in Parker, in their first year helping mainly with the percussion but also with winds and brass. Ryan now avidly peruses playing percussion instruments along with any instrument he can get his hands on. Guitar (electric, acoustic and bass), piano (synth), and voice are the other main instruments he studies. He enjoys creating his own music using recorded and computer generated sounds, teaching local student percussion, drum set and guitar and playing with many talented local musicians.
