Hailing from Central New Jersey, Zulema Cheek (aka "Zulema Nakinda") has been singing every since she knew what music was. Her passion to create at a young age began to manifest itself in her teen years as she began writing lyrics, and has been doing so ever since, now for over 15 years. Although her lyrical content is inspirational and spiritually influenced, she believes it has the ability to reach everyone in any walk of life; hence she terms her music: LIFE MUSIC. She is not afraid to tackle any genre of music, thus giving her a broader spectrum of creativity.
Zulema is also the founder and songwriter for gospel group BLAYZE 5, which was founded in September 2003. They have featured in various concerts, opening for such artists as Martha Munizzi, Smokey Norful, Rizen, CeCe Winans and J. Moss. Zulema still writes for and sings with group even as she works on furthering her solo career.
Often compared to Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker and Dinah Washington, Zulema continues to use her vocal ability to bridge gaps between all audiences, young and old. No matter what songs are on her CD, it is guaranteed, there is something there for everyone.
