When Melissa Ludwig found her musical soul mate in Mitch Connell in 2008, the couple wasted no time giving flight to the songs bottled up inside a nine-to-five existence.
Originally called Raleigh Maroon, the duo started out playing acoustic gigs in San Antonio coffee shops, polishing the songs Ludwig had penned over the years and writing new ones together.
The songs caught the ear of drummer AJ Navarro and the band quickly went electric. Bassist Douglas Turley joined in 2010.
After two years of performing and recording, the Melissa Ludwig Band exploded out of the gate in Oct. 2010 with their debut effort "Now That You're Here.” An intensely personal collection of songs, the album travels from Melissa’s upbringing in Waxahachie, Texas to present day San Antonio and the whirlwind romance that spun her and Mitch together and brought their old lives crashing down.
The band has played San Antonio hot spots such as The Cove, Tycoon Flats, the Pearl Brewery and Casbeers, and has played for thousands at the Holiday River Parade, Fiesta Oyster Bake and the Rock n' Roll Marathon, which selected the band’s tune "The Way You Feel" for a compilation album. The song also won honorable mention in 100% Music Songwriting Contest.
In 2009, Ludwig was runner-up for best vocalist in the San Antonio Current’s Rammy Awards, and the group won runner up for best Americana band.
The group has been featured on Fox News, KENS 5, KSYM 90.1 and KRTU 91.7 and in the Best Buy/Epiphone in-store music series.
They are planning a national tour in 2011.
