Portrait of Renée Wahl
She may be one of the most beautiful captains to come out of the US Air Force. Her degrees in Physics and Aeronautics may be among the most impressive on Nashville’s Music Row. But it’s her love of music that has driven Renée Wahl’s life since the age of ten.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, the songs she wrote in her younger years were classical piano pieces that won her numerous awards from the American College of Musicians and other organizations.
Heavily influenced by the favorite music of her family members, Renee’s writing changed through the years. Renée’s grandmother, Renée Conti, was a Vaudevillian tap acrobat singer with Billy Rose in New York. Her parents would play records for hours, singing along to Ruby and the Romantics, Jay and the Americans, Crystal Gayle, Elvis, Skeeter Davis, Dolly Parton, the Association and more. Being the youngest of four children positioned her to be influenced by her siblings’ favorite artists such as the Ramones, Hazel O’Connor, Concrete Blonde, Cyndi Lauper, the Cure and the Smiths.
Today Renée writes and performs songs that encompass elements of rockabilly, alternative country and a bit of pop.
Renée has paid her performing dues with several cover bands throughout the eastern U.S., in summer stock theaters, the Music City Community Chorus in Nashville, the Air Force Ball and for numerous charity events.
In addition to developing her songwriting and production skills, Renée hopes to work with others to create good music that people want to listen to over and over again! “I’m always amazed at how much music can influence us,” she says. She hopes to grow her singing and songwriting skills to be among those whose music influences others.
