Portrait of Kris Lakota
New York City, known for it’s urbanized, chaotic way of life, is the last place on earth one would go on a search for good country music… But if you look close enough, you’ll find a twang that lures you into a more homespun place and time.

Kris Lakota is more than proud to be one of those voices heading the country movement that’s engulfing the city like a southern hurricane.

As an Arkansas transplant, Kris moved to New York City in 1996 to pursue a career in theatre, but soon discovered that his true passion was that of songwriting. Getting back in touch with his southern upbringing, Kris spent the next couple of years finding his “voice” and polishing up his artistic sound. The singer/songwriter pulled inspiration from childhood memories of growing up in Austin, Texas to finding his first love in Arkansas. The minute he had wrangled up enough songs to make a record, Kris called upon legendary music icon and family friend, Al Bell (Stax Records & Motown Records), and headed back to Little Rock to record his album. Together, the two of them came up with The Harbinger, a collection of work that truly captures Kris’ story. Songs like “Should Know Better” and “Turn This Hurt Around” find the singer reminiscing about past and present loves that have been tarnished by selfishness and greed, and the new-grass shuffle of “Austin” paints the dream of a ramblin’ man bound for the Lone Star State he loved so much as a kid. Other songs like “Wonderland” and “Candy Ring” are shear high octane honky tonk.

You can find Kris on stage at some of New York City’s most famous music venues like The Bitter End, Kenny’s Castaways, Lakeside Lounge, Hank’s Saloon, and Spike Hill, in addition to Arkansas summer festivals. The Harbinger is currently receiving radio play on Nashville’s NBRN.FM, Little Rock’s 88.3 KABF , and New York University’s 89.1 WNYU.
