"The Chagalls: Painting Pictures in Song "
Based in Sydney, The Chagalls have been active in the local music circuit, playing at venues such as The Hopetoun, Lansdowne, and Cat & Fiddle Hotels. Their new single Lost in Touch has been receiving airplay on Triple J as well as being featured on the Triple J Unearthed Juke Box. An animated video clip is being made to promote the song by a UNSW flim student who heard them on Triple J and was inspired to base her final major work on their music. A recent accolade includes Lost in Touch being selected for inclusion by the new SBS TV series ‘Swift & Shift Couriers’ currently airing with a DVD release to follow in March 2009.
The Chagalls strike a unique harmony in their distinctive amalgamation of both art and music. Many of their songs contain an element of storytelling inspired by paintings, in particular the works of Russian artist Marc Chagall. Though the band can largely be described as being a powerpop/ rock outfit, their songs resonate with a colourful surrealism while remaining catchy, melodic, and grungy.
